Dear Future Veronica,
How are you? This is past Veronica. I’m signing up for this course because I think it’ll be a good way to prepare for interview applications this semester and for job applications next fall. I’m following the advice of one of the Wes alums I met during winter break, Carol, on taking the time to deeply reflect on my previous experiences, on and off campus, and analyze what transferable skills I can extract from each experience. This course’s purpose is essentially this plus I get credit for it, so I decided to enroll to keep myself accountable and actually take the time to do that.
I’m scared that I won’t get hired after graduation if I don’t get an internship this summer ㅠㅠ. I still have to look for an internship since all the major consulting deadlines already passed. Nobody told me that application season starts sophomore spring semester… I only found out during junior fall semester, but by then all the deadlines had already passed. Now, I’m scrambling to find any business/finance/economics internship in Houston since I am going back home this summer… I hope you’ve found an internship by the time you’re reading this ㅠㅠ.
I hope that through this course you’re able to fully reflect on your experiences in Wesleyan so far and that you can develop a well-thought-out elevator pitch. I hope that by the end of the semester, you’re more prepared for behavioral interviews and that you can quickly answer questions about yourself with relevant answers. On that note, I hope you finally finish the HelloHIVE application process as well so you can apply for more internships. I also hope that the Consulting Pathways Training Program was helpful. I learned a lot about what consulting is last semester, but I still don’t know how to actually handle a case interview for a consulting firm. I also hope you continue to network with Wesleyan alumni to gain valuable experiences speaking with professionals in the workforce.
Best,
Veronica D Mendoza
