As someone who enjoys getting beauty advice and product recommendations from online influencers, I developed a passion for also sharing my knowledge with the world. Seeing as how short-form video content is the most viewed content during this era, I began learning how to use CapCut, a digital video editing platform, to learn how to edit videos. It was a bit confusing to get a handle on it at first as the platform contained various tools and functions that I was seeing for the first time.
However, I watched tutorials on YouTube and practiced editing my own draft videos. Over time, I was able to grasp the ultimate basics of video editing. Once I learned the basics, I began watching videos on different editing styles, such as how to implement unique transitions. With this new knowledge, I slowly began creating my own content. While there are still a lot of areas I could improve upon and learn from the platform, I was able to develop my video editing skills greatly in a relatively short amount of time.
This past semester, I chose to make a film essay for my Women in Film class with Professor Jain. I enjoy watching video essays of films I watched, so I was eager to take on the challenge of creating one myself. For this project, I was able to use the skill set I learned from CapCut to edit my video essay. Even though I had the basics down though, there were still some unexpected challenges presented in making a long-form video over a short-form video.
For example, one of the challenges I faced was putting a voiceover over video clips and still images. There were a lot of technicalities and small details that took trial and error to finally comprehend. Nevertheless, through practice, I was able to create a satisfactory final product. Thanks to my personal interest in video editing, I was able to apply the digital skills I learned to create a well-developed project for my class.
